Kothagudem: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Monday asked the police not to harass tribals practicing Podu cultivation within the ambit of the government guidelines.

He clarified that the police should take action against those who fell trees to practice the Podu cultivation after the deadline set by the State government expires.

Reviewing the law and order, forest conservation, Haritha Haram and other issues with Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha, the Minister asked the police to register cases against the non-tribals cultivating the lands snatching them from the tribals.

Asking the SP to take action against those who breach the law and order, the Minister told the police to have cordial ties with tribals to render justice to them.

On Haritha Haram, he asked the police to take steps to save the saplings planted as part of the plantation drive. He also called for improving security on the border areas with neighbouring Chattisgarh.
