Nalgonda: AIDWA state general secretary Battula Himavathi stated that women were not in power even though they make up half the population, and demanded the Centre to introduce the Women Reservation Bill in this parliament session only.

AIDWA conducted its 11th district level meeting at UTF building in Nalgonda on Tuesday. Addressing the gathering after hoisting the organisation’s flag, Himavathi said both the State and Central governments failed to implement their poll promises. Moreover, burden on the people has been increasing with their self-centered policies.

Atrocities on girls and women increased multifold and the governments failed to address them, she underlined, demanding the establishment of fast track courts for speedy redressal of cases. The AIDWA chief further questioned the government sanctity on public health over encouragement of liquor in small shops as well as in malls.

Demanding that liquor shops should be closed by 6 pm, she urged the government to not to allow liquor shops near schools, temples and along the highways. Stating that AIDWA has been playing a key role in bringing women’s issues to the government’s notice, she informed that the organisation would do more activities for the welfare of women, particularly victims.

Meanwhile, the organisation has elected a district new body on Tuesday. While Kandala Pramila elected as president, Paladugu Prabhavathi was elected as General Secretary. AIDWA state leader Mallu Laxmi, CPM state leader Julakanti Ranga Reddy and large number of women participated in the meeting.
