Khammam: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has ordered the officials concerned to take necessary steps to prevent damage to the standing crops under Nagarjunasagar Project ayacut.

The R&B Minister along with District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar chaired a review meeting with the officials of departments concerned to discuss the progress of works of NSP, Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP), Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya, at Technical Training and Development Centre (TTDC) in Khammam on Wednesday.

Addressing the officials, the Minister ordered them to complete pending works under NSP with the funds from World Bank besides taking necessary steps to prevent damage to the standing crops.

“As the district received copious rains in the last few days, water supply for next 15 days should not be a problem. Officials must see to it that farmers do not draw water through motors so that farmers of last ayacut also get water for their crops,” suggested the Minister.

Adding that water must be supplied to Penuballi and Kallur areas after 15 days, Tummala said agricultural scientists and the officials must give necessary suggestions to the farmers to protect their crop.

Stating that works under SRSP were moving at snail’s pace, the Minister said it was the responsibility of higher officials to supervise the works and ensure they are completed in time.

“As many as 2,612 irrigation works are sanctioned for carrying out cultivation in about 70,000 acres under SRSP ayacut. Of which, only 960 were completed and 486 are under progress. Why there is a delay in works?” the Minister sought to know.

Asking the officials to maintain quality in the works of distribution system and lining works, Tummala suggested laying of fence to prevent any damage to the pipeline works under Bhakta Ramadasu Project. “Speed up restoration works of lakes and tanks under Mission Kakatiya,” ordered the Minister.

Meanwhile, the District Collector assured the Minister that all works of NSP, SRSP, Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya would be completed with the coordination of departments concerned in the prescribed time limit.
