Khammam: The farmers of Kegimallela, Shabhunigudem and Kondegatla villages are a worried lot as they are not getting water for nearly 360 acres of their land present under the Lanka Sagar ayacut region of Vemsoor mandal in the district.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, mandal CPI secretary A Gopal Rao alleged that due to the indifferent attitude of the Roads & Buildings officials and contractors, farmers were deprived of water to irrigate their lands.

They said that it was the responsibility of the Road & Buildings contractors to construct a culvert up to canal level while carrying out road widening works. But they had not constructed a culvert through which water had to be supplied to the villages present on the other side of the Lanka Sagar ayacut, he pointed out.

Even after lodging complaints several times to the officials concerned, they failed to take any action, the farmers lamented. As the sowing season had already began, the worried farmers decided to dig the canal by themselves doing ‘shramadanam’ and started the works for constructing culverts for getting the water to their fields, he added.
