Bhadrachalam: Girijans in their traditional attire from far off places made a beeline to the Bhadradri Rama temple here as part of the Sabari Yatra and offered the fruits and flowers to the Lord, making the surroundings colourful.

They chanted ‘Jai Sriram’ slogans amid playing of music and rendering of Vedic hymns by priests, much to the pleasure of the town residents. The fifth edition of the yatra organised by Sri Seetaramachandra Swamy Devasthanam is a continuation of the event taken up by Lord Rama and his sibling Lakshmana.

At the launch of the yatra, the tribals danced and played Kolatam, while taking three rounds of the temple. Womenfolk entered the premises and conducted ‘Abhishekam’ in a traditional way and handed over fruits and flowers to the priests in the ‘Nityakalyana Mandapam’. The periests conducted ‘Vishwakshena pooja’ and ‘Punyahavachanam’.

Even as the ‘Vishesha Ramanamarchana’ was going on, the priests performed ‘Pushaparchana’ using a variety of flowers to the deity. They also offered fruits and ‘Harathi’ and handed over flowers and laddu ‘Prasadam’ to the Girijans.

The Devasthanam officials provided free stay and food to the tribals and arranged buses for their return trip to villages.

Among those present were Bhukya Swetha of Bhadrachalam Major Gram Panchayat, Bhadrachalam First Class Judicial Magistrate Bulli Krishna, Tahsildar P V Ramakrishna, AEO Sravan Kumar, DEO Ravindranath, Chief priests Podicheti Jagannadhacharulu and Podicheti Seetaramanujacharyulu.
