Opposition observes Suryapet bandh after KCR’s visit

Suryapet: Expressing their annoyance over the house arrests and preventive arrests of leaders and cadres across the district during the Chief Minister’s tour to Suryapet on Thursday, all opposition parties collectively called for Suryapet bandh on Friday.

As part of bandh, Congress, BJP, TDP and Left parties conducted a bike rally in the town and raised slogans against the government and Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy.

Educational institutes, theaters, petrol bunks and all commercial enterprises were shutdown. In view of public convenience, protesters exempted the RTC buses from bandh.

Speaking on the occasion, former minister and TDP district president Patel Ramesh Reddy said the government was gagging the voices of Opposition and ignoring public welfare and convenience taking decisions at their will.

They raised objections over the laying the foundation stone for the construction of new Collectorate building at inaccessible place by buying private lands to benefit the realtors including Minister Jagadish Reddy and demanded to construct the new Collectorate building in government lands available in the town limits.

They informed that their agitation would continue till the government changed the place of the construction of new Collectorate building.

BJP district president Kontham Satyanarayana Reddy, CPM district secretary Mulkalaplly Ramulu, Telangana Vidya Vanathula Vedika district president Dharmarjun, CPI (ML) district in-charge Mandari David Kumar and activists and supporters of opposition parties participated in the protest rally.

Meanwhile, Opposition party leaders thanked Suryapet people for making bandh program a grand success.
