Nalgonda: The SHE Teams in Nalgonda district has been playing a key role in providing safety and security to women since its inception in 2015.

The number of cases registered, offenders arrested, number of persons counselled and awareness programmes conducted reveal its effective functioning.

It may be recalled that following the government’s direction, five SHE Teams were formed in five police divisions in the district to address the security issues of women.

Then DSP Sunitha Mohan acted as district in-charge of the Teams. After her transfer, Women Police Station CI Anuradha took the job.

As per official sources, in erstwhile Nalgonda district, in 2015, about 24 cases were registered against eve teasers and attackers and 32 accused were arrested.

While 491 misbehaved youth were counseled, as many as 249 awareness programmes were conducted on safety precautions and women laws across the district.

In 2016, in truncated Nalgonda district, around 38 cases were registered against eve teasers and attackers, and 41 accused were arrested.

A total of 293 misbehaved youth were counselled and as many as 93 awareness programmes were conducted across the district.

Similarly, since January this year, seven cases were registered against the eve teasers and attackers, while 9 accused were arrested and 181 misbehaved youth were counselled.

Speaking to The Hans India CI Anuradha informed that, eve teasing and attacks on women in the district have come down after formation of SHE Teams.

She further informed that with the support of superior officers, Karate classes are being conducted for girls and women to protect themselves during critical times.
