Kothagudem: As speculations are rife that many more CPM leaders from Bhadrachalam constituency are likely to cross over to the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS), the CPM leadership is busy of taking stock of the situation. Crucial leaders of the party in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district and also at the mandal-level are busy identifying who could be the next target for the TRS.

It may be recalled that ZPTC member Annem Satyanarayana alias Satyalu and Dummugudem mandal co-option member SK Jani Basha along with their followers had recently joined the pink party in the presence of Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao.

Though they did not declare it openly, Satyalu already submitted his resignation to the ZPTC post. The Bhadrachalam constituency has served as a strong fort for the comrades who won the Assembly seat in a row for seven times during 1978-2004. In 2009, the CPM lost the seat. However, in 2014, it regained the seat because of an alliance with the YSR Congress Party. As elections are drawing nearer, crucial CPM leaders are eyeing cross over to the TRS creating ripples in the CPM.

It may be recalled that a spate of resignations followed in the CPM during 2008 beginning with that of ZPTC member Gundu Sarat. The then Bhadrachalam division secretary Kunja Dharma, AIDWA national committee member Kunja Satyavati and several other leaders left CPM and embraced the Congress. This time also, the same phenomenon was noticed in the CPM leaving the leadership worried. The TRS circles are agog that many more will follow the suit.

In Dummugudem and Bhadrachalam mandals, some more are likely to follow the suit, including a peoples’ representative belonging to local bodies’ constituency. As the polls draw nearer, a clearer picture will emerge on exodus of the party leaders to the TRS.

The CPM party rank and file in Bhadrachalam constituency left shell-shocked over Dummugudem ZPTC member making it to the TRS. Though the ZPTC member moved closely with a group of leaders in the party, the latter had failed to retain him in the CPM.

The departure of the two elected people’s representatives has forced the CPM leadership to review the situation. The resignations left the party leadership think hard again whether it could lead to some more resignations on election-eve?
