Farmers growing ivy gourd, sweet lime and lemon are expressing their happiness over government establishment separate markets for their produce in the district. A few days ago, ivy gourd market was inaugurated by Devarakonda MLA Ravindra Kumar at Konamekalavarigudem in PA Pally mandal, where farmers have been cultivating the ivy gourd in about 3,000 acres.

A few days ago, ivy gourd market was inaugurated by Devarakonda MLA Ravindra Kumar at Konamekalavarigudem in PA Pally mandal, where farmers have been cultivating the ivy gourd in about 3,000 acres.

The market was constructed in an area of 2 acres with an estimated cost of 67 lakh. District Marketing Officer Aleemuddin informed that they were conducting meetings with the farmers and purchasing of the produce would be commenced very shortly at the market. It may be recalled that last year, the ivy gourd growers in the district got losses due to lack of local market and took to streets seeking one. The district administration then provided free transportation of their produce to Hyderabad market to bail out the farmers.

In united Andhra Pradesh, after Anantapur district, Nalgonda stood second in sweet lime (Mosambi) cultivation. The long-pending dream of farmers for establishment of Mosambi market for is going to be realised in the State soon. The construction works of Mosambi Market were recently completed, and it is awaiting inauguration. The market is constructed on SLBC camp office premises in Nalgonda town in 12 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 1.50 crore.

With this, farmers cultivating Mosambi in 17,000 hectors in the district are going to benefitted. Similarly, responding to lemon farmers’ demand, the government has sanctioned lemon market in 9 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 3.07 crore at Nakrekal mandal headquarters.

The works of the market are at finishing stage. In Nakrekal assembly constituency limits, farmers are cultivating lemon in about 15,000 hectares. Farmers of this region expressed happiness over government fulfilling their demand.

According to reliable sources, once the lemon market gets readied, inauguration of both Mosambi and lemon markets would be done on the same day by Marketing Minister Harish Rao.
