Unknown caller robs SBI customer of `10k

Khammam: A customer of an SBI bank was cheated by unknown person here in Khammam. The incident came to light on Wednesday when the victim, Shyam Babu, a resident of Dammapet mandal in the district, lodged a complaint with the police.

According to Shyam Babu, he had received a phone call from one Amit Reddy, who introduced himself as SBI bank representative of Koti branch, Hyderabad. The offender reportedly informed Babu that his bank account and ATM card were blocked due to merger of SBH with SBI and sought details of victim’s account number and ATM card number. The offender further added that Babu might lose all his money from the account if he refused to reveal the details he sought.

Fearing of losing money, Babu disclosed his ATM pin number and also the OTP (One Time Password) which he received on his mobile phone. After completion of the process, Shyam Babu received a message stating that Rs 500 had been deducted from his bank account, and after some time Rs 9,000 were also drawn from his account which he came to know through another message.Realising that he was cheated, Babu immediately approached the police, who registered a case and took up the probe.
