PJTSAU ties up with WSU to develop Gyan Kisan app
Professor Jaya- shankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU) entered into a tripartite agreement with Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia and Riverbridge Ventures, India to develop ‘Gyan Kisan’ application.
Hyderabad: Professor Jaya- shankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU) entered into a tripartite agreement with Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia and Riverbridge Ventures, India to develop ‘Gyan Kisan’ application.
The three entered into an agreement here on Thursday during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr V Praveen Rao, Prof Athula Ginige, Dr SK Hooda of WSU and the Riverbridge.
According to PJTSAU VC, the University will assist the team of Riverbridge Ventures to obtain scientific knowledge relevant to locally grown crops, varieties and associated best practices to be converted into actionable information and deliver to farmers via mobile phones through the proposed app. And review Gyan Kisan app and provide feedback to improve it further.
Dr Rao suggested, the newly developed app should be helpful for the larger section of farmers who are cultivating five major crops in Telangana. As part of this, it was decided to organise a workshop with policymakers, Krishi Vignan Kendra’s(KVK), District Agricultural Advisory and Transfer of Technology Centers(DAATTC’s) coordinators and frontline agricultural extension officers of the agriculture department.
Non-government organisations (NGOs) working on farmers issues to explore ways to transform agriculture extension services and based on the identified possibilities develop few new scenarios. One or two academicians from WSU will come to PJTSAU to take part in this proposed workshop in the month of March tentatively, he said. Further, the meeting also discussed to plan few projects to be carried out to implement and evaluate the identified scenarios and identify academicians and students at PJTSAU who will be involved in these scenario transformation research projects.
The participants also discussed on possibilities to arrange some of the PJTSAU academicians and students to visit WSU and spend some time working on the details associated with new scenarios to be trailed in Telangana. For this proposal, WSU had responded positively for hosting the student and faculty of PJTSAU.
University Officers Dr K S Dangi, Dr D Raji Reddy, Dr T Pradeep and Representative of Riverbridge Ventures Ishwarya were among the participants.
