Khammam: Rallies and public meetings marked the 132nd May Day celebrations which were organised by the trade unions affiliated to various political parties in the district on Tuesday. The representatives of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU), the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), the Trade Union Centre of India (TUCI) and Telugu Nadu Trade Union Council (TNTUC) along with Telangana Rashtra Samiti Karmika Vibhagam (TRSKV) celebrated the 132nd May Day on a grand scale by unfurling red flags at their respective offices and took out impressive rallies involving hamalis, beedi and municipal workers in the district headquarters which later, culminated with a massive public meeting.

The leaders and the workers exchanged greetings on the occasion and highlighted the anti-people policies adopted by the State government and demanded the implementation of welfare measures. The representatives of Marble Workers Union under the leadership Kalasani Kashaiah and S K Jhani Miya organised ‘Annadanam’ programme on the occasion here at Yellandu Cross Road.

Participating in the May Day celebrations along with the representatives of IFTU, State Joint Secretary of the CPI-ML New Democracy party Poty Ranga Rao said that no power on Earth could match the might of the working classes and they launch a massive agitation, governments would collapse. This has been proved many times in the past, he added. He urged the workers of all sections to be united to launch a fight against the State and Central governments which were adopting anti-workers policies.
