Mahbubnagar: Shopkeepers and distributors are allegedly selling expired soft drinks and thus causing harm to the health of people in in Makthal mandal. A distributor supplied soft drinks across Makthal mandal between December and January 2017.

The soft drinks should be consumed within six months from the manufacturing date. The expiry date printed on the packs of Pulpi Orange soft drink was March 2017. The distributor should have taken back the unsold stocks. But he allegedly insisted that the expired soft drinks should be old.

The episode came to light when a customer Raghavendra Chari, who bought a Pulpi Orange in Makthal at a shop found that foul smell emanating from the bottle and the drink tasted sour. He found that he was cheated as it was already expired by March last year. He then immediately brought it to the notice of the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper, according to Chari, had admitted that the distributors were forcing the merchants to sell the expired products.

“We demand that the government immediately take cognisance of the incident,” said Raghavendra Chari. The people in Makthal are now demanding that the government immediately punish those responsible for selling expired soft drinks.
