Mahbubnagar: In a tragic incident, a farmer who was robbed of his Rythu Bandhu money, committed suicide at Gangapur village in Jadcherla mandal on Monday. The farmer Mallaiah (54) from Gangapur village of Jadcherla mandal hanged himself from a tree due to depression as some unidentified persons had robbed him of his Rythu Bandhu money while he, along with his wife, was counting the amount near Syndicate Bank in Jadcherla four days ago.

Mallaiah had eight acres 10 gunta land on his name and he received a cheque of Rs 33,000 as part of the State government’s crop investment assistance scheme as the capital input for his agriculture. However, on the fateful day, when he came out withdrawing his money from Syndicate Bank branch in Badepally, some unidentified persons snatched the money from him and fled. Later, Mallaiah lodged a complaint with the Jadcherla police and the police were investigating the case.

Mallaiah was already under financial pressure as he had a loan of Rs 5 lakh as his crop yield last year deteriorated and he incurred a huge loss as his cotton and paddy crops were dried up. However, this year as the government was giving the input subsidy, he was happy and was planning to spend the amount to buy maize and cotton seeds.

But unfortunately, he lost his money to the robbers and went into deep depression. Unable to bear the unfortunate incident, Mallaiah decided to commit suicide and hanged himself from a tree in the early hours on Monday in front of his house in Gangapur.

Mallaiah is survived with four daughters and two sons. All of them are married and are depending on agriculture for their livelihood. The Jadcherla police have registered a case and investigating the matter.
