Mahabubabad: The residents of the town here are witnessing a rather unusual sight these days.Clad in green, a couple, Mohammad Subhani and his wife Saleema, founders of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called ‘Nenu Saitham’, is visiting lanes and by-lanes in the town, collecting mango seeds.

The environment friendly couple recently planted as many as 6,000 mango seeds and seeds of other fruit-bearing plants in Kambalapalli reserve forests near Mahabubabad town to spread forest cover and also to ensure food to animals like monkeys.

With an intention to plant more seeds, they are now visiting the streets patiently picking up the seeds thrown in the streets by locals after consuming the fruits. Starting early in the morning, they are collecting the seeds till noon hours and then going to the forest to plant them.

Speaking to The Hans India Subhani and Saleema on Tuesday appealed to the public in the town not to throw away seeds into the streets and in dust bins. “Store the seeds and hand them over to us and we will plant them in the forest,” they said.

“The work that we are doing now will yield result in five years’ time as they will grow up and bear fruits and spread green cover as well,” the couple pointed out. “We have set up a box at our milk parlour in the town where public can drop the seeds,” they added. NGO members Karimulla, A Rajesh, Sameer, Aravind and Ranadeep are also taking part in the task.
