Khammam: Telangana Ration Dealers Association district unit president Rayala Prasad Rao here on Wednesday demanded that the government provide honorarium and job security to all the fair price shop dealers.

As part of the call given by the State committee for Statewide shutdown of fair price shops from July 1 and protest against the government, the dealers took out a motorcycle rally from Pavilion grounds to Sardar Patel stadium here.

Addressing the dealers, Prasad Rao said the dealers were paid just 20 paise per each ration card and Rs 10 per each rice bag. Thus, each dealer could earn between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 a monthly. How was it possible for dealers to survive with such meagre earnings, he asked.

He demanded that the government fix certain amount of salary as honorarium to every dealer apart from increasing the commission. He also urged the government to release the pending bills immediately. He warned the government that the dealers would intensify agitation.

Association members S K Ibrahim, A Ramesh, G Murali, Syed Rafi, R Nageshwar Rao, Tejovath Srinivas, V Lachhaiah, Sunder, Surya, L Venkateshwarlu, Y Uma Rani, P Durgaiah, G Santosh Kumar and Narasimha Rao were present at the rally.
