School bus drivers asked to ensure children’s safety: Nalgonda Collector

Nalgonda: District Collector Gaurav Uppal has directed the private school managements to take all precautions to ensure safety of children in school buses.

The Collector along with Superintendent of Police A V Ranganath was participating as a guest at an awareness programme conducted for the drivers of the school buses. The programme was organised by the Transport Department.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector exhorted the driver to follow traffic rules. If the drivers failed to follow the rules, they would face stringent punishment, he cautions. He asked the drivers to consider the safety of children as priority.

Gaurav Uppal advised the parents to travel in school buses occasionally to instil a sense of responsibility among the drivers. He also asked the drivers to examine the condition every time they were about to sit behind the wheel.

Ranganath said most of the accidents happened because of fault of drivers. He cautioned the driver against talking mobile phone while driving. He also asked the driver to avoid smoking while driving. He sought the cooperation of the drivers to make Nalgonda an accident-free district.

Deputy Transport Commissioner Chandra Shekar Goud said there are around 700 school buses in the district. As many as 90 buses had not secured fitness certificates so far. He warned the owners of these buses of stringent action if they failed to submit their buses for inspection.

He said the officials would conduct raids and buses found to be plying in violation of rules would be seized. TRASMA leaders Papi Reddy, Kolanpaka Ravi Kumar ,Mukkamula Ram Mohan participated in the meeting.
