Khammam: A woman Maoist leader and another suspected ultra were remanded in 14-day judicial custody by a court here on Tuesday, according to a press note issued by the police in Kothagudem. K Mothibai (40) alias Madhavi or Radhakka, South and West Bastar division committee secretary of CPI (Maoist), Prudhvi, a PhD student in University of Hyderabad (UoH) and member of Sukhadev dalam, and his father Dharmaraju were taken into custody on Monday after a chase near Palvancha in Khammam district.

The police put Dharmaraju, who was found to have no Maoist links, under a bond for appearance in future. Mothibai is the wife of Chandranna, Secretary of North Telangana Zonal Committee of the Maoist Party. She carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head. A native of Adilabad district, Mothibai went underground in 1985. She worked in the erstwhile People's War Group and in naxal dalam in Andhra Pradesh. She later moved to Chhattisgarh on the instructions of the party, the police said. They alleged that she was involved in 10 murder cases, 20 arson cases and about 15 cases of firing on the police. Prudhvi allegedly worked in a 'dalam' in Khammam district and in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. He joined the Maoists after his uncle was killed in an encounter with police in 1998 in Visakhapatnam district. He worked in Telangana Students Association for time and then shifted to Telangana Vidhyarthi Vedika. He joined Sukhdev dalam in Khammam district and worked in Charla area for some time, the police note said. He and his father were caught, while taking Madhavi to Vijayawada for medical treatment. It is leant she is suffering from malaria and malfunctioning of her both kidneys.
