Khammam: District Collector I Srinivas Srinaresh has directed the officials to appoint nodal officers at colleges in the district to enroll students as voters. The Collector, through videoconference on Wednesday from Collectorate, addressed the Revenue Divisional Officers, Tahsildars, election officers and other officials and reviewed works relating to voter lists preparation. There are considerable numbers of college students who have not yet registered their names as voters in the district, the Collector said. He regretted that 2,500 applications with regard to enrolment of voters have been pending with the officials.
He directed the officials to appoint enthusiastic lecturers in the colleges as Nodal Officers to take registration of students, especially in professional colleges, as voters. On an average 65.5 percent people (both men and women) registered their names as voters across the district. About 2,000 students of engineering colleges who were possessing laptops were assigned the work of enrolling the eligible youth in Agency area as voters. They have been carrying their work actively and the voters enrolling process would be speeded up. The officials have to make use of engineering students, he said.
Joint Collector Surendra Mohan has said that out of the 28.5 lakh population of the district, 26 lakh people have registered their names for Aadhaar cards. Of them, 17 lakhs have received their Aadhaar cards. Additional Joint Collector Babu Rao, DRO Srinivas and other officials also addressed.
