callVijayawada: Speakers at a meeting here on Monday condemned the military excesses against Tamilians in Sri Lanka and called upon people to extend support to the Tamilians. They were speaking at a meeting organised to express solidarity with the Tamilians by the Peoples' Democratic Movement (PDM). Rrevolutionary writer P Varavara Rao, speaking on the occasion condemned the army excesses against Tamilians in Lanka. He said that the Sri Lanka government had been suppressing human rights of Tamilians for years together. He delored that countries like the US, China and India were supporting the Sri Lankan government. However, after resistance from secular and civil rights groups, the US had moved a resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Council for which India too supported. He said India too had been supporting Sri Lanka government ignoring the civil rights of Tamilians. He recalled that India had sent Indian Peace Keeping Force (IKPF) to Sri Lanka. The Samata Party former national president, V V Krishna Rao, condemned the violence perpetrated against Tamilians in Sri Lanka. He said that the Sri Lankan army had brutally killed Prabhakaran and his family against the accepted civil procedure. The PDM State assistant secretary, N Krantikumar was in the chair. The Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee secretary Ch Chandrasekhar, senior advocate Karnati Ramamohana Rao, Andhra Pradesh Rythu Coolie Sangham leader V Ramalingaiah, PDM leader Y Venkateswara Rao and others spoke.
