goodVijayawada: The Christians in the city observed Good Friday, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in various churches. The day was marked by silent prayers in churches and also the communities enacting the crucifixion and the last journey of Jesus. The Christians spent the day with the family members in churches fasting and praying for the Christ. In some churches, the communities took out processions enacting the crucifixion and offering special prayers. They also remembered the last journey of Jesus and the 14 incidents of the journey in the form of way of the Cross. The Christians at St. Peter's Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral and Gunadala Matha Shrine were packed to their capacity with the devotees staying inside and offering special prayers for the day. The priests, Fr Lamu Jayaraju at St. Peter's, Fr P J Stephen at St. Paul's and Fr M Chinnappa at the Gunadala Shrine led the prayer services and the enactment of the crucifixion. The prayers preceded 40 days of fasting by the Christians, which is called the Lent season.
