textGudivada (Krishna): CPM town secretary BV Srinivas inaugurated the fifth day of the relay hunger strike being organised by the Gudivada Cloth Merchants Association against the State Government's move to enlist textiles under Sensitive Commodities Act and to impose VAT on textiles at the local Nehru Chowk centre here on Friday. As part of the strike, the protestors took out a huge motor bike protest rally in the town from Nehru Chowk, flagged off by former MLA Ravi Venkateshwara Rao, against VAT on textiles.Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Venkateshwara Rao said that with the imposition of VAT on textiles, small and middle class textile traders would suffer drastically. The poor and middle class people would be unable to purchase clothes, he said.
