Kurnool: Members of the Government Vehicle Drivers Association and the government employees association took out a massive rally carrying the effigy of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh here on Sunday and burnt it down in protest against the decision to divide the state.
They had also formed human chain at Raj Vihar Centre before burning the effigy. A number of associations including that of employees, teachers, students, workers, farmers, advocates, caste associations and activists of Telugu Desam party, CPM and others organised rallies, dharnas in the city vowing that they would continue the struggle until the decision to divide the state was withdrawn. The ration shop dealers have also organised a massive rally in the city.
The district medical and health department employees launch awareness programme among people in general and women in particular regarding the importance of keeping the state united for the betterment of all people. A number of women came out onto the streets on Sunday raising slogans for a united state.The agitators started laying siege to the ministers and MLAs houses to bring pressure on them to submit their resignations to the posts and join the agitation.
They have already laid siege to the houses of Minister TG Venkatesh and TDP leaders KE Brothers.
On Sunday they laid siege to the house of Kodumuru MLA Murali Krishna demanding his resignation and join the agitation. They assured the MLA that they would elect him again if they join the stir and otherwise, he would not have any political future. Former Mayor Bangi Anantaiah who has been coming out with different attires, came out on Sunday in the attire of Alluri Sitaramaraju. He also participated in the relay hunger strike in the makeup of Alluri Sitaramaraju in which several Congress leaders took part. He said that Seemandhra area was famous for noted leaders. He demanded that TDP chief Chandrababu naidu should withdraw the letter he had submitted in favour of division of the state and then only should launch his bus yatra.
