Kurnool: Thousands of women thronged the venue of Mahila Garjana here on Thursday to mark their protest against the decision to divide the State. Addressing the mammoth gathering, Satyavani, sociologist, said that it was not proper even to think of dividing the Trilinga Desam. She congratulated the large number of women who attended the meeting for coming forward to fight against the self-centred people who bent upon dividing the Telugu people. Women would never agree to mortgage the future of the people of the State for the sake of a small group of politicians, she said.
Satyavani thundered why the Telugu people should not remain one if everybody thought all Indians should remain one. She said that the women of Kurnool made the world hear the voice of Telugu Talli.Regretting over the hatred sown by vested interests among the people of various regions, she said that let us help each other for making the world a better place.
She recalled that the politicians had secured exemption from the Right to Information Act but ignored the Mahila Bill.
Satyavani exhorted women to launch a political party to allocate 30 per cent reservation for men. She appealed to the powers-that-be to understand why so many women who seldom come out, came onto the roads. It is high time the leaders understood the issue and kept the state united.
Meanwhile, the joint action committees of students, teachers launched massive rallies in the city. The teachers JAC members have gheraoed the Pattikonda MLA K E Prabhakar demanding his resignation. The employees of Animal Husbandry department pulled the namesake of Digvijay Singh with a rope around his neck to mark their protest.
The teachers JAC leaders laid siege to the CPI office demanding withdrawal of the consent letter given to the Congress party regarding the division of the state. The employees of Agriculture department slapped the flexi of Union Ministers with chappals to mark their protest. In Atmakuru, Samaiky-andhra Parirakshana Samiti has intensified the agitation on Thursday by laying siege to the private educational institutions that have been running schools in spite of the agitation.
The members of the joint action committees of teachers, students, RTC employees had an altercation with the managements of private educational institutions which insisted that they would not close down the schools. They went around the town and closed down several educational institutions.
The integrationists have paid a visit to Forest department employee Mohan Rao who sustained injuries in the attack by Telangana agitators on the way to Save Andhra Pradesh meeting at Hyderabad. The injured employee, Mohan Rao, has participated in the relay hunger strike with his broken hand.
