Hyderabad: Heavy traffic jams were witnessed in the capital on Tuesday as the security and traffic police personnel cordoned off several roads to facilitate movement of the convoy of the President, Pranab Mukherjee. Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a 10-day South sojourn, would stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan at Bollarum till July 8.


Traffic snarls occurred as several roads were out of bounds for commuters. The President visited Raj Bhavan for a dinner hosted by Governor E S L Narasimhan. Commuters faced difficulty during morning and evening rush hours. With the police cordoning off the roads at YMCA flyover, RP Road, Somajiguda, Punjagutta, Begumpet and SP Road, traffic came to a standstill.

There were snarl-ups at Paradise, Bible House, Greenlands Junction, Raj Bhavan Road, Khairatabad, and Somajiguda due to the traffic restrictions. Hyderabad Traffic Police claimed it had issued an advisory tro the people to avoid using the certain routes. However, it proved to be of no use as most of the commuters were caught unawares.
