The Telangana government's annual Iftar is scheduled today and will be participated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with his cabinet and prominent people of Hyderabad.

However, the event is facing opposition as a fresh Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Hyderabad High Court to stay the dawat-e-iftar which has an extravagant budget allotment of 66 crores.

The activists opposing the iftar are alleging that the government has allotted huge funds from the Minorities Welfare department (Minorities Welfare State Sector Schemes) of Telangana for organising the event at 800 masjids including distribution of gift packets across the state.

One of the petitioners, Activist Lubana Sarwat has appealed to all religious leaders, politicians, bureaucrats, citizens to boycott KCR’s iftar questioning such ridiculous spending culture from the tax payer's money adding that the government’s money is only for the welfare of the public.
