HYDERABAD:A domestic customer, D Swarupa, a resident of Srinivasa Nagar, Boduppal was shocked when they received an electricity bill for Rs 3,81,571, for the period between May 9 and June 10, on the basis that power of 40,059 units of power was consumed.

The electrical charge was levied for Rs 3,79,087 and the remaining Rs 2,403 was considered as electricity duty. The due date for payment is June 24.

When the customer brought this to the notice of the officials on Tuesday afternoon, an enquiry was made which ended in one of the officials of that area admitting that a mistake was made in the generation of the bill. Another staff member was sent to the house to check the meter reading, for the correct bill.The new bill was of Rs 134 and the power consumed was only 63 units.

When the official was questioned about the reason for the mistake, he stated that there had been a mistake in entering the number of units consumed and that the bill was sent based on that.

A staff in the control room stated that it was impossible for a domestic customer to get a bill of Rs 3.81 and that the exact details would be given by a higher official, if contacted.
