The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has issued a three-day warning for Telangana as heavy rains are expected to lash large parts of the entire state.

The IMD issued an alert for the heavy rains for the districts of Suryapet, Nalgonda, Khammam, Jayashankar Bhupalapalle, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal and Mahabubabad.

Dark clouds covered large parts of Hyderabad during the weekend with several parts of the city witnessing mild rainfall. According to the reports, the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal along with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation around it has resulted in the rains.

The alert has been issued till 8:30 am on July 11 and could be extended further. The heads of several departments in the Telangana government held a convergence meeting at the headquarters of the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad on Saturday. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy headed the meeting where he stressed the need for proper coordination between all the departments to handle emergency situations that might arise during the heavy rains.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao instructed his cabinet ministers and District Collectors to take stock of the situation in the districts and take necessary action in view of the weather forecast.
