Demanding the suspension of the contributory pension scheme (CPS) and continuing with the old pension scheme, the Joint action committee of teacher's organisations (JACTO) called for a protest on September 1.

The committee also alleged that the government is trying to privatise the pension system by introducing CPS, which may affect every government employee and their family members, who depend on them. "It would be a huge loss to the government employee after the retirement," the committee spokesperson alleged.

Around 60 lakh employees in the country and 25 thousand in the state are continuing with the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

In 2016, the teacher's organisation staged a protest at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi against the CPS and also appealed to the government to suspend the scheme.
