HYDERABAD: The sudden stoppage of trains of the Hyderabad Metro Rail has occurred due to pollution. It said that, carbon deposits have been settling on the power cables because of the pollution near Uppal and Nagole, which is currently creating operational issues for the Metro Rail trains.
On Sunday morning, a Metro Rail train had stopped at Prakash Nagar, and it was found that the pollution from the dumping yard which is located at Uppal along with the gases that are being emitted from the open sewage which is placed next to the Uppal Metro Rail depot have been causing carbon deposits to accumulate on the electric wires, which is leading to a malfunction.
N.V.S Reddy the managing director of HMR said, “We have brought the problem to the notice of the Pollution Control Board and are also taking it up with senior government officials. The carbon deposits on the electric wires are leading to this phenomenon. Maintenance schedules have been advanced to prevent such situations.”
Two incidents of train stoppages have occurred within a span of six months and it was found that the Uppal and Ameerpet stretch is being affected. The electrical work at the Uppal depot is being rescheduled by increasing the frequency of maintenance.
The motto of the Metro Rail is to Reduce carbon emissions and there will now be a pay and park facility in the city areas to cut down on the number of vehicles.
