BENGALURU: On Friday the state government as a precautionary measure conducted a check for the migration of labour from Karnataka. It had increased the man working days from 100 to 150 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

RV Deshpande the revenue minister said that the drought might worsen with the farming going down in the next few months and this may cause migration. Following the drought which is affecting 100 of the 217 taluks in 24 different districts, the government had decided to form four cabinet sub-committees for each of the four revenue sub-divisions in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kalaburgi and Belagavi to oversee the implementation of the drought-mitigation measures.

Deshpande had also said that the drought kharif season has passed on to the rabi season with Karnataka having a deficit rainfall of 49%. He said that the government has banned the transport of fodder from Karnataka to the neighbouring states as the cattle was being affected in the state.
