NEW DELHI: A warning for the citizens had been issued by the Income Tax Department to be aware of the spoofing attacks that are being made through the fake Income Tax returns messages. People took it to Twitter to share the text messages that they had received which states to be from the Income Tax Department.

The surprising information which is exposed is that, the message is perfectly addressed to the right person whose phone number is directly linked to the Income Tax e-filing account. Because of the accuracy of the phone number and the name of the person, people tend to believe that the message had been generated originally by the Income Tax Department.

One of the message which was received read that, “Dear Pradeep K (the name linked with phone number on e-filing website), Income Tax requires you to click the link below to submit a formal request for the remittance of your unclaimed overdue tax-refund on Rs 29,754.” The message was closed with a Bitly link to a fake SBI online banking website.

This is a classic phishing move through which the misfeasance steal the information regarding the SBI internet banking login details.
