While the Sankranti festival is being celebrated on a grand note in both Telugu speaking states, a village Athmakur mandal in Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh considers it as inauspicious. People hailing from Kothapalli village do not even take bath on the festival day believing that the festival turns out to be unlucky to their families.

"A person from the village who had gone to their native place on Sankranti was met with an accident," says a villager terming the festival as inauspicious. Also, the people from Kothapalli who got settled in other countries follow the tradition.

No rangoli will be seen in front of the houses and no dish is prepared in the village.
