BENGALURU:On Monday the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), had rolled out a Rs 10,600-crore civic budget for the year 2019-20. The entire activity was associated with women, starting off with pink ends on the budget booklet to the different welfare schemes.

The women-centric programmes that have been proposed were comprised of the Mahalakshmi scheme, by which the civic agency have planned to provide Rs 1 lakh bond to the first girl child of any family delivered at the maternity homes of BBMP and the Annapoorneshwari scheme through which the scheme agency had intended to provide 50% of the subsidy for women entrepreneurs who are owning mobile canteens.

A promise has been made for about Rs 8,000 crore grants for Bangalore in the state budget, BBMP has assured to take up a string of infrastructure works which include elevated corridors, white-topping and improvement of storm water drains.

As it has been announced in the state budget funds for drinking water units and revival of lakes, have been allocated, at the pedestrianisation of three commercial hubs — Church Street, Commercial Street and Brigade Road.

Hemalatha Gopalaiah, the chairperson of the taxation and finance standing committee, had announced that the ‘Mahalakshmi Yojane’ will be implemented from April 1, 2019 till March 31, 2020. The scheme will be beneficial for the first baby girl born to a family in any of the 24 BBMP maternity hospitals which are located in the city. “Every first baby girl born to a family will be gifted 15-year maturity bonds of Rs 1 lakh as assistance for their education or wedding. The civic agency has earmarked Rs 60 crore for this purpose,” Hemalatha said.

For the Annapoorneshwari programme, 50% subsidy will be provided through four vehicles in each assembly constituency for women belonging to the economically weaker sections for the functioning of their mobile canteens units on self-employment basis. BBMP has earmarked Rs 5 crore for the scheme.

Hemalatha said that, the BBMP will be purchasing two fully equipped mobile testing buses at a total cost of Rs 3 crore. The aim is to detect cancer in its initial stages. Another Rs 50 lakh has been allocated for setting up a cancer treatment division in Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram General hospital, which is located in JJR Nagar. Hemalatha has also earmarked Rs 19.8 crore for women-centric welfare programmes. Every ward will get Rs 10 lakh under this programme.
