HYDERABAD: Telangana High Court has stated that the district collector is the sole competent and has the authority in determining a persons caste system.

Telangana HC Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili has set aside an enquiry report if a Tashildar and the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the authorities of 17th Battalion against Santhosham Ajay Chander, a constable working with the Battalion.

This order was pronounced by the Judge after having a plea by the constable who was vexed with the disciplinary actions initiated against him on grounds of using a false status for gaining employment.

As he belongs to a BC -B category, Gandla community, later some complaints were made against him saying that he belongs to Reddy Gandla community which Does not fall under BC-B Category.

The Tashildar Of Nennel mandal from Mancherial district made an enquiry report saying that the petitioner belongs to a Reddy Gandla and he does not fall under BC -B category.

This became basis for the departmental action. The judge in his order said that the authorities cannot proceed without waiting for the collector to cancel the caste certificate through the due process of law.
