Sangareddy (Medak): District Collector A Dinakar Babu exhorted the physically handicapped persons to utilize the government schemes for their welfare.Reviewing the welfare programmes undertaken for the physically handicapped persons with the officials of department of welfare for physically handicapped persons, BC Corporation, District Water Management Authority, DRDA, Civil Supplies department, APSRTC, the collector said that a number of government agencies have been extending a helping hand to the physically handicapped persons. He said that three per cent reservations for the handicapped persons should be implemented compulsorilyl.

He said that they could bring to his notice any problems they face. He advised them to cultivate the habit of working hard. He said that he was collecting the data of backlog posts in all departments and the jobs would be given on merits only. Assistant Director of the Welfare department for physically handicapped Lakshmanachari said that 36 backlog posts were identified in various departments this year. House sites, Antyodaya cards would be allotted to the handicapped persons, he added.

BC Corporation executive director Anjaneya Sarma said that the Corporation was extending Rs. 13.27 lakh as subsidy to the 47 physically handicapped persons. Dwama district coordinator Chandrasekhar said that under NREGS, 56,000 working days were provided to the 2,365 handicapped persons and Rs. 72 lakh was paid to them. He said that ten nurseries were allotted to the handicapped persons. He appealed to the handicapped persons to get the subsidy of Rs 9100 for constructing latrines for them if they paid Rs. 900. Under Janasri Bima Yojana, 8200 handicapped persons were given insurance bonds for 2012-13, DRDA official said.

Out of the 35,000 Antyodaya cards issued this year, 12,746 were given to the handicapped persons, civil supplies official said.

APSRTC regional manager said that bus passes have been given to the handicapped persons to attend the camps for handicapped. "They would be given bus pass within half an hour," he added. Representatives of Handicapped persons welfare associations and others participated.
