Mani Ratnam who has been going through some tough times after his previous film 'Kaatru Veliyidai' bombed at the box office, decided to change the cards and make a multi-starrer and came up with 'Chekka Chivantha Vaanam' which also got dubbed into Telugu as 'Nawab'. The film marked a grand release today on September 27th.

With the starry cast including Aravinda Swamy, Simbu, Jyothika, Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Aditi Rao Hydari etc, the film has caught the attention of the audience. The trailer also increased the expectations. Let's see if the film succeeded in winning the hearts of the audience or not.

Story:
The film's story is all about the battle of power between sons. Prakash Raj is an aging don and he is survived with wife Jayasudha, and three sons Aravind Swami, Arun Vijay and Simbhu. All the three sons have different mentalities and have different plans in life. Their common goal is to occupy the throne of their father. What did they do for the same? is a raw, gripping and grey tale that you should not miss.

Performances:
Though they are so many star actors in the film, every character has their own importance in the film. Like Gangster brothers, Aravinda Swamy, Simbu and Arun Vijay have delivered stupendous performances. Needless to say, Jyothika has delivered a powerful performance which will leave an impact on the audience. Vijay Sethupathi will definitely steal the show with his outstanding performance.

Aditi Rao Hydari looked beautiful and got a bold role, which she handled it really well. Aishwarya Lakshmi also delivered a good performance. Though this is her debut film, Dayana Erappa greatly impresses with her beauty and acting. Jayasudha and Prakash Raj also justified their roles well. The rest of the cast members also made their presence felt.

Technical Aspects:
After all, it is Mani Ratnam's film and has his mark love stories and romance in the film. The love stories are beautifully handled between the leads. Though there are so many characters, Mani Ratnam portrayed every character in a nice manner. The first half is fun, interesting and romantic whereas in the second half, the dosage of emotions, drama and action increases. Production values of Mani Ratnam and A. Subaskaran are super rich.

There is no need to mention that music by A. R. Rahman is topnotch. Santosh Sivan handled the camera excellently well. Editing by A. Sreekar Prasad is good. There are no draggy scenes and the movie gives an interesting ride. Telugu Dialogues by Shashank Vennelakanti are good.

Verdict:
The first half of Nawab is good and steady. The film is star-studded and each one of them made their presence with amazing performances. The film is a fresh gangster drama narrated with Mani Ratnam's mark attached all over. The interval point creates the required interest for the second half and no one would expect such a suspense sequence at the end of the first half.

The second half of the movie is stunning but the climax appears a little stretched. The seat-edge thrilling gangster crime drama is worth of all the hype and it is good to see Mani Ratnam back in the form. Do watch it.
