pra2New Delhi: Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma may lose his Cabinet berth before the Budget Session of parliament resumes on April 22 after the month-long recess, with the Congress keen on buying peace with Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. Even before the dust settled on the ruckus caused by Verma's controversial remarks against Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Union Minister has once again fired a fresh salvo at the SP, causing a major headache for the Congress. Sharing his assessment of the poll prospects of the major players in UP with media persons in Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, he said, "The Congress will contest all the 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP and will win 40. We will not let BJP win more than 10 seats. Behenji (Mayawati) will win 36. And of whom you are talking about (SP) will win four seats and there will be a funeral procession for that party." UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav hit back, saying that the Congress will end up with a poor tally of Lok Sabha seats from UP. SP leader Ram Ashrey Kushwaha, who demanded Verma's removal from the Union Cabinet, claimed the latter had lost his mental balance. While the total number of seats in UP is 80, Verma's own assessment far exceeds it and touches 90 with 40 for Congress, 36 for BSP, 10 for BJP and four for SP. The Congress was quick to distance itself from the Union Minister's remarks, indicating that it does not support such statements made by Verma. This was a signal to the SP that the Congress neither approves nor encourages such remarks against the SP. The Congress is miffed with the latest controversy sparked by Verma, as the party is keen to keep the SP supremo in good humour. It was only on Friday that Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram had reached out to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and inaugurated 300 bank branches in the state. Chidambaram went out of his way to praise Akhilesh Yadav for his administrative skills, Verma has once again hit out at the SP, much to the chagrin of the Congress.
