Maya supports demand for T State

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said here on Sunday said that her party would extend support for formation of Telangana. "Right from the beginning we have been in favour of a separate state of Telangana. We will support any positive decision by Centre," Mayawati told media here.

Mayawati on Sunday said the caste-based rallied were organised to unite the nation. In a recent ruling, the Allahabad High Court had banned caste-based rallies in Uttar Pradesh and had said such rallies divide the society. Mayawati raised an objection to it and said, "We organise such rallies to unite the nation."

The BSP chief hit out at the BJP and asked the Supreme Court to step in and stop polarisation of votes on Ayodhya. Her remarks came in the backdrop of BJP UP's in-charge Amit Shah commitment of build a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. She also asked the apex court to ban organisations such as the RSS, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal. "For a long time, parties have been using disgusting politics in Faizabad to get votes. We appeal to the Supreme Court to intervene in this matter so that inter-religious bonds are not weakened," she said.

She condemned Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's 'puppy' remark where he compared the victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots to animals. "We implore Narendra Modi to introspect and be mindful of how he speaks of minorities in India," she said.

BSP chief said that the party leader Vijay Bahadur Singh comment on Modi was his personal opinion and has been given a warning for his act. "We have dropped his candidature for the next Lok Sabha elections. If he continues to indulge in this act, he will be dismissed from the party," BSP chief said. Singh had said that the Gujarat Chief Minister was a "sensitive" person and his comments were misinterpreted.
