Subramanian Swamy's Janata Party merges with BJP ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha polls- Subramanian Swamy on Sunday announced the merger of his Janata Party with BJP ahead of the 2014 general elections. The announcement was made by Swamy in the presence of BJP president Rajnath Singh, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari. Ahead of the merger, Swamy held discussions with senior BJP leaders at Rajnath Singh's residence, who accepted the merger of his party in BJP and hoped it will make BJP stronger.


Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has merged his party with the BJP ahead of the 2014 general elections to put up a strong fight against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), thus joining the main opposition party himself.

The announcement was made by Swamy and BJP president Rajnath Singh after they met at the latter's residence in Delhi. Former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Arun Jaitley were also present at the meet.

"Swamy has been a part of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. Swamy has decided to merge Janta Party with the BJP. We welcome Swamy on joining BJP fold," said Singh.
