New Delhi: The Seemandhra leaders on Monday harked back to ‘Father of the Indian Constitution’ Dr B R Ambedkar, who had suggested that Hyderabad should be declared the country’s second capital.At a roundtable conference held in the capital, the leaders, cutting across party lines, asserted that Hyderabad should be declared the second capital of the country. Seemandhra leaders belonging to the Congress and the TDP attended the roundtable conference.

The Seemandhra leaders have been consistently opposing the idea of handing over Hyderabad to Telangana. The burden of their argument is that Hyderabad should not be made the capital of Telangana alone, as people from Seemandhra and other parts of the country have vital interests in the city.

After the roundtable conference, Congress MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar pointed out that Hyderabad as the second capital of India was a suggestion initially made by Dr B R Ambedkar as a means of ensuring national integration. After what happened in Hyderabad recently, the proposal for making Hyderabad as the second capital had gained currency and assumed importance, he added.
