New Delhi: Under fire from Opposition on missing coal files, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Thursday directed officials of the Coal Ministry and other related Ministries to constitute teams in their respective Ministries/Departments to locate the relevant documents/files at the earlest.
Directing them to make all-out efforts to locate these documents to facilitate the ongoing investigations, Sriprakash Jaiswal said that the weekend holidays should be utilised for this purpose. Jaiswal asked the Coal Secretary to review the matter on September 10.
Sriprakash Jaiswal reviewed availability of coal blocks allocation files in a meeting with senior officials of Ministries of Coal, Power, Steel, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and Coal India Limited Chairman. The Coal Minister had earlier constituted an Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) under Chairmanship of Additional Secretary of Coal to locate the documents requisitioned by CBI. The IMG held five meetings till date.
The Coal Ministry has also constituted five search teams, including those for Coal India Ltd in Kolkata and Delhi and the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) at Ranchi.
The Supreme Court on August 29 had directed the CBI to furnish a comprehensive list of documents/files/ information, which are yet to be received from the Government. The Apex Court had given two weeks time to the Government to make available the requisitioned documents. The lists of these documents have been given to the Ministry of Coal by CBI on September 2-4.
Later in the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Coal Ministry, Sriprakash Jaiswal said the Coal Ministry is making concerted efforts to increase the availability of coal in the country. Inspite of various constraints, Coal India Limited has produced 31.67 million tonnes in the month of August, registering a growth of about 11 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
