New Delhi: APNGOs President Ashok Babu on Wednesday warned of another round of agitation on the very same day the Telangana Bill comes to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

The APNGOs will hold a meeting on November 24 in Hyderabad, after which the notice will be served on the Andhra Pradesh Government.

Ashok Babu, who was in the capital to lobby with the national political parties against the Centre’s move on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, said there were several things to be done, such as deletion of Article 371 (D) of the Constitution, and seeking the opinion of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Conventions and practices were as important as the Constitutional provisions, he said.

While Article 3 empowers the Centre to move in the matter, obtaining the views of the State Assembly in the form of a State Assembly Resolution was equally important, he argued.

As part of the bid to enlist the support of the political parties to oppose the Centre’s move to divide Andhra Pradesh, Ashok Babu met the leaders of the BJP, JD (U), JD (S), SP and the CPI.

BJP President Rajnath Singh was understood to have assured Ashok Babu that while creation of small States was part of the BJP ideology, it cannot be at the expense of another region. The BJP would not support any move that would cause injustice to the people or bypass the Constitutional provisions.

JD (S) leader and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said that while his party did not have numerical strength, it would certainly raise its voice against any injustice to a particular region.

The Samajwadi Party made it clear that the party opposed the very move to divide Andhra Pradesh. The JD (U) also pledged support to ensure that the Constitutional processes would be followed.

CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said that while his party favoured the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, it would raise its voice to ensure that the Constitutional process was followed.
