Court denies bail, orders 6 days remand for Tarun TejpTarun Tejpal, Tehelka magazine editor who allegedly involved in remanded for six days on Sunday. It is evident that he was arrested on Saturday evening at 9 p.m. upon the allegations of sexually harassing a woman colleague.
The Judicial Magistrate Shama Joshi passed the order for Tejpal’s remand on a petition filed by the police. Tejpal has approached the honourbale court for the grant of anticipatory bail, which was rejected just before sending him for the remand for six days.
After his arrest on Saturday evening, he was kept in the lock up along with two other accused in a murder case. Late in the night he was sent for the medical checkup at Goa Medical College. Media representatives captured the spot near the medical college and posed a few questions to Tarun for which he didn’t respond. Before sending him for the remand, the 50yrs aged Tejpal was accompanied by his family members and personal lawyer.
According to police there was no adverse actions adopted by Tarun both after arrest and before sending into remand. As the court allowed, he was supplied with a new pair of clothes by his family. The Crime Branch officials deployed their own guards outside the lock-up. At the lock-up located inside the Police Headquarters in Panaji, overlooking the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Tarun Tejpal has been remanded.
It is evident that a woman journalist, employed with Tehelka, had accused Mr. Tejpal of sexually assaulting her twice on November 7 and 8 in Goa. The police have booked a case under Sections 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 376 (2)(K) (custodial rape) of IPC on Tarun Tejpal .
