New Delhi: In a no-holds-barred interview Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reiterated his demand for an absolute control of the Delhi Police and sought strict action against its officials to make sure they fall in line for checking the surging crime graph in the capital. The combative Kejriwal also took on his one-time close associate and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi calling her a devout follower of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"We want Delhi Police to come under Delhi government, the Bill is pending in Parliament since 2004," he said pointing that the previous government have not taken concrete measures to address the issue.

Kejriwal said that his government will root-out corruption by taking action against the corrupt ministers and dared the Congress to withdraw support to his government. "Congress will regret giving support to us when probe will be ordered on Commonwealth games scam," he said dismissing reports that he was scared of losing his post.

The AAP leader backed his party colleague and Law Minister Somnath Bharti's tussle with Delhi Police over an alleged drug and prostitution racket in a South Delhi area. "The Law Minister row is not an embarrassment to party. Somnath Bharti did nothing wrong. There were complaints from people of a sex racket in the area," said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal said that Bharti was merely addressing the complaints of local residents living in Khirki Extension who he claimed were fed up over police apathy towards their complaints. The Delhi Chief Minister claimed that the police officers were conniving with the "accused" as they refused to act against the alleged prostitution racket. He said that the police should be taught a lesson to fall in line and said that taking action against the erring police officers would create a sense of fear among them. "When sex and drug rackets run in you locality then you will realise, this runs with police backing. Why are we defending the SHO? Instead of punishing the police, who are not doing their job, these people are defending them. Suspend four officers and Delhi Police will fall in line," Kejriwal said in his first interview as Delhi Chief Minister. Kejriwal also defended the charge that he is more of an activist than a Chief Minister saying it is important to both clear the files and hit the streets. "We want to change the mindset, our ministers will stay both indoors as well as on the streets. We are completely accessible to the people," he said.

The AAP leader also added that his party was committed to its poll promises. "Lakhs have benefitted from free water. If I have given Rs 200 crore subsidy to public that too only for four months what is the harm," he said. Kejriwal also warned party dissident MLA Vinod Kumr Binny saying he was free to leave the party. For the first time, Kejriwal also stated that he is under pressure to contest the Lok Sabha polls despite not wanting to do so. "My ambition is not to become the prime minister. My ambition is that I want to remain an "aam aadmi" and go to see a movie with my family during weekend," he added.
