Diphu: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi said that he was not in favour of family members of politicians getting party tickets to contest polls.

"I am not in favour of giving tickets to family members of Congress leaders and want to change this trend," Gandhi said.

People should elect their own representatives, he said, adding he had already started the process in this direction.

"I want people to be a part of the process of selecting candidates and want the public to select their own candidates," he said.

"There is a need to bring change in the party and we will do it fast. The first step in this direction is to make the selection of candidates from among the people."

Rahul advocated decentralisation of power and funds to people at the grassroot level. "There is an idea that control should be centralised with everything managed from Delhi, but there is another idea which, I believe, is that there should be decentralisation of power and funds."

A day after two Gujarat MLAs quit to join BJP, Congress alleged that Modi was promoting corruption and luring legislators and others with money.

"Today, there is a large scale corruption in Gujarat. He lures Congress MLAs with money. Why he lures them, what is the need for him, he already has 117 MLAs. In my opinion, he does it through corrupt practices and lures them by giving them money," senior party leader Dinsha Patel said.

Blaming Samajwadi Party for lack of development in Uttar Pradesh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said though the Centre is providing funds, the works are not being carried out by the state government.

Gandhi said the Centre's responsibility is to send funds, but the development works have to be carried out by the state government.

"See the state of this village...It belongs to a particular community for which the state government should also take some responsibility," Gandhi told newspersons in an informal chat during her surprise visit to Binohara village in Rahi block on the second and last day of her visit to her parliamentary constituency.
