  • ‘Not questioning his sexual prowess’

  • BJP leaders demand immediate apology

New Delhi: After calling Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi 'impotent', Union Minister Salman Khurshid went ahead and justified his words by arguing that the BJP leader was not competent.

Refusing to regret his statement against Modi, he said that he was not questioning the BJP prime ministerial candidate's sexual prowess but his incompetence for failing to stop the post-Godhra riots.

"What does the word impotent mean? I am not questioning his sexuality or prowess. The word 'impotent' is used in Hindi and English all the time and I've borrowed it from your channels. When someone can't do something then he is called impotent," he justified his earlier comment.

Khurshid, who is being severely criticised by the BJP leaders for making personal comments on Modi, went ahead and attacked the Gujarat Chief Minister questioning him if Gujarat riots were carried by his approval. "If he is not impotent, then he did it willingly. It is very simple. I'm giving him a choice. Tick the box. You either did it knowingly or you lack in capacity," he said.

He also lambasted BJP leaders for attacking him and said that they should look up the dictionary. "When you lack in capacity, how do you describe that, as impotent, isn't it? It means lack of capability to do what you are supposed to do. Modi didn't have the capability to stop what happened that is why he is impotent. It is the politics of incompetence. BJP should look up the dictionary," he said explaining his stand.

Khurshid came under sharp attack from BJP which accused him of using abusive language against Modi.

BJP demanded an immediate apology from the Congress leadership.

BJP charged Congress of being "desperate and despondent" ahead of elections and said sensing defeat, ruling party leaders have resorted to use of abusing language against Modi after failing to take on him politically.

"I am not his doctor. I cannot physically examine him. So I have no business to be saying what his physical condition is. The word impotent is used in political vocabulary to show that somebody is incapable of doing something," he said.

Khurshid on Tuesday said in Farrukhabad, "We don't accuse you (Modi) of killing people...Hamara aarop hai ki tum 'napunsak' (impotent) ho. (Our accusation is that you are impotent). You couldn't stop the killers."
