New Delhi: Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday invited Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Karimnagar and Bhuvanagiri in Telangana during the election campaign. Thanking Rahul Gandhi for Telangana, he said the people of Telangana are grateful and they will express their gratitude in the form of vote for the Congress.

Rahul Gandhi is understood to have advised the Congress MPs that youth will be greater representation in the Congress. Four Telangana Congress MPs, Ponnam Prabhakar, P Balram Naik, Komatireddi Rajagopal Reddy and Suresh Shetkat, called on Rahul Gandhi. The meeting was part of the shooting of an advertisement film.

Telangana Congress MPs briefed Rahul Gandhi about the political situation in Telangana and the party’s poll-preparedness. The Telangana Congress leaders expressed confidence that the party will elections on its own steam.

The Congress had been pinning hopes on the TRS merger with the Congress. After TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao rejected it out of hand, the Congress has been pinning its hopes on electoral tie-up with the TRS. The Telangana Congress MPs, however, sounded optimistic that alliance or no alliance, the Congress will win in the newly-created State. The people of the newly-created State watched on TVs how, despite enormous obstacles, it was Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who stood firm and carried forward the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, they told Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress High Command, on the other hand, is worried that the Telangana Congress leaders are more Hyderabad-centric. These Congress leaders are not travelling in Telangana and campaigning for the party or showcasing the fact that the Congress-led UPA Government had granted Telangana.

In contrast, the Congress, which is on a weak wicket in Andhra Pradesh, is pushing ahead with the Bus Yatra, reaching out to the people and trying to sell the idea of rebuilding a new State, with decentralized development, so that the mistake of concentrating development in and around Hyderabad is not repeated in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
