Indian Mujahideen chief arrested, Indian Mujahideen Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu Arrested. A joint team of Delhi Police Special Cell and central intelligence agencies is now questioning him.

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, chief of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu, one of the most wanted terrorist blamed for a number of terror attacks has been arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

His arrest will deal a major blow to the terror organisation that was behind several terror strikes in India, including the recent Patna and Bodh Gaya blasts in Bihar. "Tehseen handled all IM modules in India and was a key link between SIMI and IM operatives," SN Srivastava, Special CP, Delhi Police Special Cell, said. "He was involved in the Mumbai bombing and Hyderabad's Dilsukh Nagar serial blasts," he added.

The arrest of Akhtar comes on close heels of arrested of another top IM operative Zia Ur Rehman alias Waqas along with three of his associates. Waqas is also wanted for terror attacks in Hyderabad.

Hunted by the police for months, Tehseen was arrested early on Tuesday morning from a village called Panitanki, near the border with Nepal.

The Delhi police called Tehseen a big catch, who had not just planned several terror attacks including the blasts targeting Narendra Modi's rally in Patna in October, but also helped set up an arms factory in the capital.

With the arrest of Tehseen, almost the entire top leadership of Indian Mujahideen has been nabbed by the police. Indian Mujahideen co-founder Ahmad Siddhibappa Zarar alias Yasin Bhatkal, Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu, Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi and Zia Ur Rehman alias Waqas were the brains behind almost every IM attack on Indian soil.
