New Delhi: Narendra Modi will be Prime Minister and he has the moral authority to rule the country, no one else, BJP president Rajnath Singh said on Friday.

"No matter what happens, under any circumstance, Modi will be India's PM. I want to clarify this as the president of the party. Because just by sitting in an office, people can't run a government," Singh told NDTV in an interview, making it clear that he would not be part of the government if the BJP came to power after the national election.

"I am the president of the party. My responsibilities have been fixed beforehand. When I wasn't the president, I was in the government." His remarks also appeared to take a swipe at the Congress-led government and allegations that Sonia Gandhi, the party's president, took key policy decisions as a parallel authority, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh submitted to it.
